Volkswagen has made the first delivery of its ground-breaking XL1 rechargeable diesel hybrid. Thomas Zahn, Director of Sales and Marketing of Volkswagen, Germany handed over the first of these space-age looking cars to the lucky first owner, Dr Christian Malorny at VW’s Transparent factory in Dresden earlier this week.
This two seat sports car is outstandingly efficient and is capable of up to a competition-busting 313mpg thanks to its streamlined and super-light, carbon fibre construction. While Volkswagen is only planning to produce a handful, using the car mainly as a study vehicle, a couple dozen are expected to make it to the UK later this year, from among the 250-or so expected to be produced.
With such limited production, Volkswagen hasn’t even named a price for this plug-in hybrid two-seat coupe, but it is said to be around £100,000.
