Hawaii continues to be on of the top states in the America when it comes to solar energy installations, according to a new report.

The Aloha State ranks fifth in the U.S. in first quarter 2014 installations, led by the residential market with about 17 megawatts installed during this time period, according to the U.S. Solar Market Insight quarterly report done by the Solar Energy Industries Association and GTM Research, which is one of the most comprehensive solar energy market reports in the country.

In total, Hawaii installed a little more than 25 megawatts of solar energy in the first quarter, following states such as North Carolina, Arizona, New Jersey and California, which finished in the top spot with 959 megawatts installed.

The U.S. installed 1,330 megawatts of solar energy in the first quarter, which was down 37 percent from the previous quarter, but up almost 80 percent compared to the same quarter in 2013.

This represents the second-largest quarter in the history of the U.S. market, and by far, the largest first quarter in the market’s history.

Nearly two-thirds of the capacity installed in the first quarter came from the utility market, which installed 873 megawatts, the report said.
