Collaboration set to extend electric vehicle range

Using proprietary plasma technology, Perpetuus can insert molecules into layered solids such as graphene to enrich electrode materials. When used with OXIS’ LiS battery technology, these electrodes will enable high performance batteries with energy densities in the order of 400Whr/kg. This is said by the companies to be ‘significantly higher’ than current Li-ion batteries can achieve and will enable cars to undertake journeys of up to 500 miles on one battery charge.

Huw Hampson Jones, OXIS’ CEO, said: “Perpetuus can produce industrial quantities of the nano engineered electrode materials that will significantly extend the cycle life of LiS batteries.”
