Africa: Mayor sees future in zero carbon emissions car

The city of Tshwane is going green to ensure that future generations enjoy a better standard of living says Tshwane mayor, Kgosientso Ramokgopa.

Ramokgopa received the keys to the first electric car to be commercialised in South Africa at the municipal offices in Centurion from Nissan SA representatives, which he will test drive for two months.

Nissan Leaf vehicles produce zero carbon emissions, are environmentally friendly and run on rechargeable batteries.

The move is one of the practical steps the city is taking to transition to a low carbon, climate resilient and resource efficient economy.
