Network of electric car charging stations planned

The Door County Visitor Bureau (DCVB) plans to commemorate the opening of Door County’s first public electric vehicle charging stations during a special ceremony at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Door County Welcome Center, 1015 Green Bay Road, Sturgeon Bay.

Wisconsin Department of Tourism Secretary Stephanie Klett will be on hand to help plug in the ceremonial first vehicle and say a few words regarding the future role of electric vehicles in the tourism industry. She will be joined by DCVB President/CEO Jack Moneypenny and other local dignitaries during the ribbon-cutting and inaugural charge.

The event kicks off a new effort the DCVB is spearheading to build a network of electric vehicle charging stations throughout Door County to help attract visitors who embrace ecotourism and the electric vehicle movement. A list of local businesses who have already committed to install their own electric vehicle charging stations this year will be distributed at the event.

A DCVB-produced map will be available later this year to help visitors locate where charging stations can be found in the county. The DCVB plans ongoing efforts to recruit more businesses and communities to install additional charging stations.
