Nation’s largest all-electric car share program unveiled in Indy

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A first of its kind program not only for central Indiana, but for the United States was set to be unveiled Monday.

City leaders announced a partnership with Bolloré to form “blueindy,” an all-electric car share system.

The program has been designed to cater short-term driving needs with 125 electric vehicles for rent at 25 locations planned across Indianapolis by the end of the year. With its opening, blueindy made Indianapolis the first city in the country with an all-electric share program.

Mayor Greg Ballard called the announcement unprecedented, marking “the first time Bolloré, one of the 500 largest companies in the world, will replicate its very successful Paris car share model outside of France,” Ballard wrote in system’s introduction letter.

To use, drivers will input a valid driver’s license and credit card to rent a vehicle. Insurance and liability is included in the cost according to Marc Lotter, spokesman for the Mayor’s office. blueindy had not announced a pricing structure as of Monday morning but Lotter said if similar to the system in Paris, the price would equal around $13 a month for unlimited use or $4 every for 15 minutes without a monthly membership.
