EnerDel electrifies trikes in the Philippines

Boracay is certainly a long way from Indiana. But business is business, and EnerDel has found some on that island in the Philippines. And, to quote the hip-hop lexicon, there’s some three-wheeled motion to boot.

The Indianapolis-based company reached what it says is a “long-term” agreement with GerWeiss Motors Corp. in the Philippines to supply lithium-ion battery packs for the motorized three-wheeled vehicles that are used to ferry people around the four-square-mile island of about 12,000 people. The three-kilowatt-hour battery packs will be able to provide as many as five hours of driving on a single charge. GerWeiss plans to convert up to 500 three-wheelers to electric power by 2016 and says it may expand the program to other parts of the Philippines. Boracay is about 200 miles south of Manila
