Electric car charging stations postponed indefinitely as Cleveland Public Power retools business model |

CLEVELAND, Ohio — City-owned Cleveland Public Power’s two-year-old plan to install three public charging stations for electric vehicles has been put on hold indefinitely, as the city aims to “reset CPP’s business model”to ensure its long-term viability.

In a written statement this week, city spokeswoman Maureen Harper said that the city continues to explore the feasibility of installing charging stations at city facilities and buying electric vehicles for the city’s fleet to meet goals for reducing the city’s greenhouse gas emissions.

But as for the public stations — which were to be built at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, the Municipal Parking Lot near the Browns Stadium on South Marginal Road, and a third undetermined East Side location –– those plans are not top priority, Harper said.
