Tesla Motors closes in on promise of free electricity nationwide

Range anxiety for Tesla Model S owners was recently alleviated further as the California automaker’s 100th Supercharger station was opened in New Jersey.

The Supercharger stations, which are unique to Tesla and can charge the Model S sedan with around 150 miles-worth of electricity in 20 minutes, are key to the brand’s continued success. Free-of-charge and located on major routes, the station infrastructure now spans the US and has begun to grow in Europe and even China.

Tesla estimates that its Superchargers have saved more than half a million gallons of gasoline from being burnt, in turn saving its customers a cumulative $2.3 million. With the company on target to achieve its goal of covering 98 percent of the US population by the end of next year, those numbers are set to grow ever-faster.
