Fox Baltimore $1 Million to be Put Toward Electric Vehicle Charging Stations in MD

Attorney General Doug Gansler on Thursday is expected to announce $1 million in funds being made available for the development of a statewide network of fast-charge electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. The money for the project comes from an energy-related settlement over violations of the Clean Air Act, Gansler’s office said. Fast chargers work within 30 minutes; the current charging options take anywhere from a few hours to overnight to fully charge an EV. “Maryland would be among the first Eastern states to introduce fast charge stations, which must be located throughout the state along major highways,” Gansler’s office said in an emailed release. “At last count, more than 1,200 electric vehicles were registered in Maryland.” The state of Maryland has set a goal of 60,000 electric vehicles travelling Maryland roads by 2020.
