Plug-in hybrid Fisker Karma and smaller Atlantic set to re-enter production within a year

After purchasing the assets of bankrupt green car startup Fisker Automotive, Wanxiang plans to restart car production.

Pin Ni, head of the US unit of the Chinese auto parts giant, told Reuters that his company hopes to resume production of the Fisker Karma sedan “within a year.” Ni declined to quote a sales target, but said “obviously we want to sell more than what Fisker sold before under its previous management.”

Fisker Automotive delivered about 2,000 Karmas before production was shut down in July 2012.

Ni previously said the revived Karma will be offered with either extended-range electric or gasoline-burning V8 powertrains, the latter done in concert with Bob Lutz’s VL Automotive. Wanxiang and VL already have a relationship as they collaborated during the initial round of bidding for Fisker.
