We’re used to seeing electric cars with a range of, say, 80 to 100 miles on a charge, but DBM Energy, a company in Germany, says it has designed a battery that powers a car’s electric motor far more efficiently than anything we’ve seen so far.

DBM Energy says the newly designed battery powered an Audi A2 on a 375-mile journey from Munich to Berlin and the car made it without having to charge up along the way, according to this report from plugincars.com. By comparison, all-electric cars sold or leased in the U.S., such as the Nissan Leaf or Honda Fit EV, have a total range of under 100 miles. The Tesla S can go up to about 300 miles on a charge, but that’s with the highest-capacity battery pack the company sells and the price of the car is up around $100,000.
