Electric car charging corridor opens in central England

A series of fast-charging points for electric vehicles has been launched, creating a corridor of quick-charge areas across the centre of the country.

Known as the Milton Keynes Crosslink, the 14 units are capable of charging an electric vehicle in around 20 minutes and are located in and around Cambridge, Bedford, Milton Keynes, Buckingham and Oxford.

The charging points, operated by Chargemaster, are designed to be compatible with existing electric vehicles such as the Nissan Leaf and Renault Zoe and newer models such as the BMW i3 and VW e-Up, among others.

The scheme was instigated by Milton Keynes Council with support from the Office for Low Emission Vehicles and is intended to link up the east and west of the country for electric vehicles.
