One of the most talked about electric cars is BMW’s i3. It goes zero to 60 in 7 seconds.

“The torque is amazing,” said, April Bolduc from SDG&E’s electric vehicle division, adding, “it takes off quicker than a regular combustion engine because the motor is electric.

On a full charge, the i3 will drive for a 100 miles, but what’s different and innovative, it offers an external engine that turns it into a hybrid.

“You can purchase an extra adaptor,” said Bolduc, explaining, “and go another 200 miles.”

That new feature solves many of the concerns of some consumers who were reluctant to go electric. “How the engine switches over,” said one auto show attendee said, adding, “once you’re done with electric and goes straight to gas is great.”

On the opposite end of the spectrum are the exotic cars. With price tags in the hundreds of thousands they are not for everyone, but sure nice to look at, especially their flagship model the Aventador.

“It comes in around 450–thousand dollars, said Nino Venturella, who manages all the exotic cars at the show, joking he says, “it’s just pocket change.”

That’s more that the average price of a home in San Diego county, and it purportedly drives great too, “it’s a fun ride, pretty breathtaking when your head his the seat back,” said Venturella, adding “lots of power.”
