Sarasota company wins contract to provide charging stations for electric cars

Apollo Sunguard Systems Inc., a small Sarasota manufacturer, won a federal contract to provide 183 electric car charging stations at federal buildings.

The contract could be worth $900,000 and was awarded by the Government Services Administration, the Sarasota Herald-Tribune said. Apollo Sunguard will be distributing a product made by ChargePoint, a California company, and will essentially serve as the dealership for the charging stations. Each station stands about 7 feet tall and can charge two cars simultaneously, the Herald-Tribune said.

“We got the greatest Christmas present going,” said Apollo President Kevin Connelly. “They let us know this is a highly visible project.”

The stations are likely to be used by federal employees, federal vehicles and the general public, the Herald-Tribune said.
