Google engineer talks self-driving cars in Livermore

LIVERMORE — If driverless vehicles are the wave of the future, software engineer Mike Montemerlo is riding the crest.

Part of a team working on Google’s Self-Driving Car project, Montemerlo will discuss and demonstrate the capabilities and limitations of the technology in the third and final talk of this year’s Rae Dorough Speakers Series in Livermore on Tuesday, Jan. 28. Montemerlo is formerly of the Stanford Artificial Intelligence Lab, where he worked as the software lead for Stanley, the robot that won the 2005 DARPA Grand Challenge.

The talk takes place at the Bankhead Theater, 2400 First St., at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $30, $15 for students 21 and under.
