Cadillac ELR plug-in hybrid comes with free home charging system, but only if you’re quick |

Not only is General Motors offering anultra-low-mileage lease on the new Cadillac ELR plug-in hybrid, but early buyers will also get a free 240-volt home-charging system.

Cadillac is also offering free installation of the system, which fully charges the ELR’s battery in five hours, giving 37 miles of electric range. Like the Chevrolet Volt before it, once that charge is depleted a small gasoline-powered generator fires up to supply electricity for a further 300 miles of driving.

From a standard 120-volt source, Cadillac says the ELR takes between 12.5 and 18 hours to charge, so the benefits of the 240-system are considerable. Comparable cabled Level 2 aftermarket systems start at around $500, withwireless systems such as PLUGLESScosting around $3,000.
