BMW’s i3 Now Ties In With Samsung Galaxy Gear

BMW’s i3 electric city car is new territory for the automaker in a number of different ways. It’s most notably the first mass-market all-electric car BMW has produced; it’s also made of a design language that is inherently new to the automaker, as well.

The i3 will also be BMW’s first car that will be compatible with the new wave of wearable devices, namely Samsung’s (SSNLF.PK) Galaxy Gear smartwatch, according to Autoblog. An app designed for Samsung’s wrist device will alert the wearer of information pertaining to the i3′s battery charge, available range, and whether the doors and windows are closed or open — handy for when the vehicle is left out and it starts to rain.

Though it’s a first for BMW, the tie-ins with wearable tech have been seen industrywide. Mercedes-Benz has also committed to integrating with wearables, and Hyundai recently announced an effort to incorporate Google’s (NASDAQ:GOOG) Glass into the driving routine.
