TESLA PLUGS NEW WEST COAST CAR-CHARGING CORRIDOR | UTSanDiego.com Mobile

Tesla Model S owners can now travel from San Diego to Vancouver without paying a dime to charge their electric sedans via the West Coast Supercharger Corridor, according to Palo Alto-based Tesla Motors.

Tesla Superchargers, 20x faster than most public charging stations, are located within destination places like hotels near Interstate 5 and US Highway 101. They have the ability to charge up to four vehicles at once, so owners don’t have to wait in line to charge their vehicle. Once charged, a Model S can potentially travel 200 miles before revisiting a supercharger, according to the company.

What’s more, the supercharger takes mere minutes to charge — fewer than 30 minutes — to be at 80 percent capacity, according to Jacques Chirazi, Clean Tech program manager for the city of San Diego. Normal Level 2 charges take hours.
