Rep. Janice Hahn joins our call for installation of electric car charging stations: Opinion

Rep. Janice Hahn, D-Los Angeles, reacted to an opinion item andeditorial that appeared in this newspaper by sending a letter of concern to the head of the California Public Utilities Commission.

The editorial was about the failure of NRG Energy Inc., which gouged Californians during the electricity crisis of more than a decade ago, to live up to the terms of a legal settlement with the PUC that requires the company to build a statewide network of charging stations for electric cars.

NRG is obligated to have 1,040 stations up and running by now, but only 104 are ready, Associated Press reported. The company agreed in the settlement to install 10,200 stations by the end of 2016, but is off to a very slow start on that commitment.
