Mercedes confirms hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions of the 2015 C-Class |

This is the refreshingly new Mercedes-Benz C-Class. Aside from being by far the most luxurious C-Class ever built, it’s also the first of its kind to be available with a diesel hybrid setup and, later on, Mercedes says, with an ultra-efficient plug-in hybrid drivetrain.

While it’s almost certain that Mercedes will sell the hybrid and plug-in hybrid in North America at some point, only the non-hybrid C300 and C400 models are so far confirmed. They will launch in August 2014 and will both come in all-wheel drive 4MATIC spec. Mercedes says price should remain at around $40,000 for the C300.

A hybrid C-Class would be a tempting proposition for buyers, however, particularly with a super-frugal diesel powerplant. Using a 2.1-liter 204hp diesel engine and a 27hp electric motor, Mercedes says the C300 BlueTEC HYBRID burns just 3.9 liters of diesel per 100km, which equates to 60.1mpg-US.
