Malta: Electric cars’ charging points to be free of charge for a year

Transport minister says electric cars charging points set to alleviate pollution and address transport inefficiency

The charging points for electric cars across Malta and Gozo will be available for free for a year, Gozo Minister Anton Refalo announced today.

In an effort to encourage the use of electric cars and to facilitate the use of the services, 15 charging points are being installed in Gozo while in Malta, 75 charging points are being installed.

“The government is committed to ensure sustainable growth and to meet the eco-Gozo targets, among which include improved air quality,” Refalo argued.

Meanwhile, Transport Minister Joe Mizzi said that this scheme seeks to alleviate the pollution in Malta caused by transport in Maltese roads, which currently stands at an “alarming” 17% of the generated emissions in Malta.
