Kandi EV Will Rent You a Car for $3.25 an Hour in China

If you find yourself in Hangzhou, China, and in need of a car, you may want to check out the Kandi Car vending machines.

A company called Kandi Technologies Group (KTG) has launched a new car sharing service in China that has electric vehicles stored in vending machine like parking garages where you can rent them for $3.25 an hour. The goal is to help not only make sure everyone who needs a car has access to one, but to also hopefully alleviate some of China’s notoriously polluted air.

The Kandi Cars are rated to go up to 75 miles at a speed of 50 MPH and the plan calls for 750 of these garages to be built around just Hangzhou over the next four years for a total of 100,000 vehicles. The project is being funded by both the government and Geely Automative, the largest passenger car company in China. To date, two garages have been completed with another 18 under construction. Should this project succeed in this first test, the plan is to expand to other cities such as Shanghai, Shandong and Hainan.
