General Motors Co. will invest $121 million at its Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Plant to build 450,000 square feet of additions to support bundling and sequencing of parts for assembly lines.

The Detroit-based automaker said it expects the logistics center additions at its 3.6 million-square-foot plant that straddles the Hamtramck border will be completed in August.

“We’d see a growth of approximately 50 jobs (next year), and over time that would increase as we grow as a plant,” Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Plant Manager Doneen McDowell said in an interview.

A memo from the City of Detroit about the project said it would add 210 jobs. McDowell said that figure is through 2015. She declined to comment on whether the plant would receive more vehicles.

“We’re committed to the city of Detroit, and we’re committed to having a manufacturing presence in the city of Detroit,” she said.
