Electric cars race round London on giant Scalextric track

Believe it or not, we’re all more familiar with electric cars than we may know. Many of us will have played with Scalextric track cars as kids, and perhaps some of us still do.
In the spirit of a bit of pre-Christmas fun, Renault is taking us back to those days, with the creation of a giant Scalextric track around London. Instead of toy cars, however, the carmaker used two of its full-sized ZOE electric superminis in a race around the city to prove the capabilities of its cars as little urban racers.

As the brand prepares to take part in next year’s FIA Formula E electric car racing challenge with its partners next year, Renault decided to show how electric cars are no stranger to motorsport, drawing on inspiration from both real-world motor racing and the miniature Scalextric sets.
The giant 1.9 mile track starts from the London Eye on Southbank, travels past Westminster Bridge and the Houses of Parliament, onto Embankment and The Strand, back over the River Thames, this time across Waterloo Bridge, then around the BFI London IMAX cinema in the lead-up to the finishing straight alongside the River Thames.
