The College of DuPage has installed its first electric car charging station.

The move came at the request of several members of the public who wrote letters to college officials asking if the stations have ever been considered.

“It’s just part of green initiatives for the college….It’s for students, faculty and public use,” said Chris Wosachlo, energy and project manager for COD.

The station, installed over Thanksgiving week, has two plugs and is located in parking lot 2, near the Physical Education building. It cost roughly $13,000 for the installation, Wosachlo said.

A second station with two plugs is being planned for the spring and will be located in parking lot 3, near the Seaton Computing Center. The college is applying for a rebate from the state’s Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, which would reimburse $7,500 to cover the cost of installation for each station.]
