YD pits its Qin Plug-in Hybrid against, well, almost everything on the drag strip

We don’t know if episodes of “Pinks” are shown in China, but Shenzhen-based automaker BYD appears to be doing its best simulation, by pitting its Qin plug-in hybrid sedan against all comers.

Two recent YouTube videos show the sedan facing off against Mustangs, Minis, Porsches and all sorts of other vehicles on the dragstrip, which in this case appeared to be an airstrip. All the more room for braking, we guess.

The shorter, two-minute video shows the Qin (pronounced “chin”) beating out eight other challengers. The longer, three-minute video shows the Qin in a series of races against 34 other vehicles, and the BYD pretty much came up in the middle of the pack there. We’re not completely positive, of course, because neither video has any graphics in English.

BYD in April 2012 unveiled the Qin at the Beijing Motor Show and said it’d replace the low-selling F3DM. The Qin features an all-electric range of 31 miles and a claimed rating of 118 MPGe. More appropriately for the videos, the car also has a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine that delivers 300 horsepower and a 0-60 acceleration time of less than seven seconds.
