Volta opens more electric vehicle charging stations on Oahu, Maui

Volta Industries LLC, which installs and maintains free-to-use, advertising-supported electric-vehicle charging stations, said Thursday that it has opened up its six station at Ward Centers in Honolulu with plans to open its first station on Maui at the Whaler’s Village shopping center.

The Honolulu-based company, which recently took home PBN’s Business Leadership Hawaii’s “Best in Small Business” honor, hopes to have as many as 150 stations installed by the end of the year.

Volta, which has stations on Oahu, as well as in the Mainland in cities such as San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix and San Diego, said that as of Nov. 1, it has given away more than 600,000 miles of charging in the past two years during more than 20,000 free charging station sessions through its stations. Today, it operates close to 50 charging stations.

There are 1,869 electric cars on Oahu, according to state figures as of September.
