Toyota to commence tests on chargers for plug-in hybrid, electric vehicles

Japanese automaker Toyota Motor is set to start verification tests in preparation of the deployment of chargers for plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHVs) and electric vehicles (EVs) in Aichi Prefecture, Japan from 15 November 2013 to 15 March 2014.

Tests are primarily aimed to examine optimal charger locations; trial user-friendly authentication methods and encourage businesses to install chargers.

This program is extension a similar project implemented by the company in 2012. The tests will be conducted in collaboration with four local governments including Gamagori City, Toyohashi City, Nishio City, Kota Town and 13 businesses and organizations.

Along with commercial sites, the company will expand this program by including hotels and nearby tourist sites in response to EV and PHV user feedback.

As part of this program, Toyota will install 40 new chargers in addition to the 32 chargers implemented in 2012.
