Tesla Electric Car Charging Station To Be Built In Holbrook

A charging station for Tesla electric cars is due to be built on Navajo Blvd. in Holbrook, according to City Manager Ray Alley.
“They have applied for a building permit,” said Alley. He said he is in talks with the Tesla Motors architects and has not yet issued the permit.
According to the company website, a series of Tesla Superchargers are being built that will allow Tesla Model S owners “to travel for free between cities along well-traveled highways in North America and Europe.”
The site goes on to say the Superchargers “provide half a charge in about 20 minutes and are strategically placed to allow owners to drive from station to station with minimal stops.”
According to the website, Tesla plans to make coast-to-coast travel possible by the winter of 2013. The charging stations are planned to be located near various amenities such as restaurants and shopping centers, making it possible for Tesla owners to charge their cars while getting something to eat.
“Road trippers can stop for a quick meal and have their Model S charged when they’re done,” the website says. True to the plan, the Holbrook Tesla Supercharger is set to be built next to the Carl’s Jr. restaurant on Navajo Blvd.
The company website also says the Superchargers are free for Tesla Model S owners. The stations will provide half a charge to the cars in 20 minutes and are said to be 33 percent faster than the current version. A 30-minute charge will enable the car to be driven for 200 miles.
The website also states that, “Supercharging is included in every Model S with an 85 kWh battery, and can be added to any 60 kWh Model S for $2,000, or $2,500 if enabled after delivery.”
Some stations will be equipped with canopies covered with solar panels to offset energy use and provide shade.
