Nissan LEAF and Renault ZOE Lead EV Sales in Europe Through First 9 Months of 2013

Nissan LEAF and Renault ZOE
The European EV market has been growing nonstop for a few years now and after the first 9 months of 2013, is on the level of 24,000 or so passenger EVs.

As we can see from the table below, most of these EVs sold in Europe are Nissan LEAFs and Renault Zoe (together 14,282 units).

Where the ZOE is a newcomer, the LEAF is still seeing sales growth. We hope to see both EVs sell over 10,000 units in Europe this year and then who knows – maybe 20,000 in 2014?

Sadly, not all EVs are seeing growing sales and the increase for the LEAF is partially negated by a drop in sales of other models.

Sales of i-MiEV, C-Zero and iOn is almost 5,000 units lower than the previous year. Counting these three cars as one (produced in the same facility in Japan) i-MiEV had 6,171 sales through 9 months last year and was the best seller until Nissan finally slashed the price of the LEAF and Renault introduced ZOE.

Meanwhile, the Chevrolet Volt’s sister, Opel Ampera, is on the decline too.
