SARATOGA SPRINGS >> Jackie St. Onge is one of 3,000 New Yorkers who are making the world a cleaner, greener place by driving an electric car.

Now, if needed, she can “fill up” at Empire State College on West Avenue, where a new charging station was unveiled Friday, the latest of several throughout the Spa City.

They’re already at Kohl’s Department Store, a downtown Railroad Place parking garage and plans call for installing them soon at the city-owned Woodlawn Avenue parking facility.

“It’s great because it can improve your range,” said St. Onge, of Ballston Lake, who drives a fully electric 2012 Nissan Leaf.

The station is part of a $50 million Charge NY state initiative that calls for installing 5,000 such sites throughout New York during the next five years. New York has the third most electric vehicles in the U.S. behind California and Washington state.
