THE VILLAGES — Going the extra mile is what anyone who signs up for the military is expected to do.

In recognition of those who were wounded in the line of duty, a convoy of four electric vehicles is taking a “Drive for Veterans,” across the United States. The goal is to raise both funds and awareness for the Semper Fi Fund/America’s Fund and the Fisher House Foundation, two nonprofits that help wounded veterans and their families recover.

Columbia ParCar, headquartered in Reedsburg, Wis., is the manufacturer and organizing sponsor of the fundraiser, and the company donated the zero-emission, low-speed electric vehicles for the journey. The cars’ top speed is 25 miles per hour, and they must stop to recharge about every 75 miles.
