Nissan has revealed its new ZEOD electric racing car at the headquarters of the firm’s performance Nismo division in Japan.

The ZEOD, which stands for Zero Emissions on Demand, is set to compete in next year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans and is the spiritual successor to the DeltaWing, which Nissan entered into the race last year.

Nissan claims that the ZEOD will be the first car capable of completing a full lap of Le Mans using electric power only, as well as the world’s fastest electric racing car with a top speed of 185mph. The ZEOD’s power comes from the same lithium-ion battery technology fitted to the LEAF electric car.

The ZEOD will be used to help Nissan develop new electric vehicle technologies for its planned entry into LM P1 endurance racing.
