Kia launching its first all-electric vehicle for US market next year

Kia annnounced today at a drive event for the redesigned 2014 Soul that coming next year will be an all Electrified Version of the boxy city car.

The car would be Kia first all electric vehicle. It’s only electrified vehicle now is the hybrid version of its Optima mid-size sedan.

Kia said the new 2014 Soul’s EV model would have some additional exterior tweaks to improve aerodynamics and to have enough diffferences that your neighbors will know your Sould is the electric model.

The company provided no pricing or geographic availability details except to say it would be offered in “select markets” — which sounds like you aren’t likely see them if you aren’t on the West Coast.

It said more details about the Soul EV’s powertrain, range, packaging and marketing strategy “will be announced at an upcoming major U.S. auto show.” The likely suspect, given its a car that seems made for California, is the upcoming L.A. Auto Show in November.
