Electric car owners plug into UK’s biggest charging network 72,000 times

The UK’s first open network of recharging points has been used for a total of 72,575 charging sessions since the system first went live three years ago.

That means that the Charge Your Car (CYC) network is the UK’s biggest network of charging stations and has now supplied more than 350,000 kWh of power since the system went live in 2010, up to Charge Your Car public charging point1October 6, 2013.

Started as the North East’s Plugged-in Places regional network, the CYC system is now expanding across the country with a vision to create a national network of open access charging stations for electric cars. It became the first pay-as-you-go service available EV owners, with the charge stations monitored 24 hours, seven days a week, to give electric car drivers reassurance over the availability and usability of stations.
