Village OKs charging station for electric cars

PLEASANT PRAIRIE — Tesla owners may soon be able to get a quick charge while browsing at Pleasant Prairie Premium Outlets.

The electric carmaker received approval from the Pleasant Prairie Plan Commission Monday for construction of a supercharging station for Tesla electric cars. The station, planned for the mall’s west parking lot near the Nike store, will include spaces for eight cars, each space with a charging post.

According to Jean Werbie-Harris, the village community development director, the station would be open seven days a week, 24 hours a day.

“The station will bring more visitors to the village who will likely shop and dine here,” Werbie-Harris said.

Drew Bennett, Tesla project director, told the commission Tesla is working on a network of charging stations along heavily traveled corridors.

“This is really exciting for us,” Bennett said. “We’re building up this big network of charging stations that will allow people to travel freely and cleanly.”
