USA: Stay juiced at the ballpark: Mariners install charging stations at Safeco Field

SAMSUNG CSCToday’s newest smartphones can now read your fingerprint and take 41-megapixel photos, but that darn battery still doesn’t seem to last longer than one day on a single charge.

For those who run out of juice at the ballpark, the Seattle Mariners now have a solution. The team has installed five wall-mounted charging stations at Safeco Field, each with 16 charging cords that fit a variety of mobile devices.

But you won’t be able to use them for much longer: The M’s have six more home games before the season wraps up next Sunday against Oakland. Of course, they will be at the stadium next spring when the 2013-14 campaign gets underway. And still, this is very good news for those of you using your smartphone to track foul balls during the game.

The charging stations are the latest tech upgrade at Safeco Field. Last month, fans were given access to a new app that allows you to, among a bevy of other features, upgrade your seat 30 minutes before first pitch (one hour for season ticket holders).

Six months prior at the start of the season, the team installed the biggest video board in all of baseball.
