WACO, Texas (KXAN) – Some drivers traveling between Austin and Dallas can now fuel up for free.

Tesla Motors held a ribbon-cutting to officially open its new supercharger station in Waco on Tuesday. Drivers can now pull up and plug in and they don’t have to pay a dime.

“This car will revolutionize the planet and is more fun to drive than a car that runs on gas,” said Austinite Matt Holm, one kxan.comthe 700 people in Texas who own a Tesla.

Holm predicts when Tesla’s $35,000 model is released it could be the death of the internal combustion engine.

The Tesla S, now available for sale, is an electric luxury sedan completely powered by a lithium-ion battery. It has no gas tank and no engine under the hood. A 17-inch touch screen monitor controls every function of the car, and even includes web access.

Drivers charge the car the same way they charge their phones and they can now plug in at one of eight charging stations Tesla unveiled in Waco.

The super charger, located right next to the Collin Street Bakery, is located at about the midpoint between Austin and Dallas. Drivers who plug in for 20 minutes can store up enough energy to drive 150 miles. If they charge for 45 minutes, they can go 300 miles.

Unlike at gas stations, fueling up at the charging station doesn’t cost drivers a dime. The company offers free charges to Tesla owners.
