Tesla motors really is changing the whole auto industry

This week Tesla motors was in the news again over a job listing for an engineer to develop their own self-driving cars. While the Model S already received the highest rating ever from Consumer Reports and a safety rating that borders on ridiculous, one gets the sense that CEO Elon Musk is only getting started making cars more futuristic.

But the real Tesla motors news this week was that GM announced it’s working on an electric car with a 200-mile range for a $30,000 price tag. The point is to compete directly with the Model S.

While the company wouldn’t confirm any details about such a car beyond the fact that it’s working on it, Vice President of Global Product Development Doug Parks took aim at Tesla, saying, “Their pricing is up there for a real unique customer. The real trick will be who can do a 200-mile car for more of the price range I’m talking about. We’re all in races to do that.”
