Ridgefield turns over a new Leaf

RIDGEFIELD — It might be Cayenne Red or Brilliant Silver or Blue Ocean, but the new addition to the town’s fleet of vehicles will be very green.

The Board of Selectmen voted unanimously Wednesday to use grant money from several sources to buy an all-electric Nissan Leaf.

“I’d like our town to be green, to be a leader,” First Selectman Rudy Marcon said.

The town will buy the car, which will cost no more than $29,060, from Bruce Bennett Nissan of Wilton.

The town already has an electric vehicle charging station at Ridgefield Playhouse. But Marconi said the dealership has agreed to install another station “at a prominent place it town.”

Once in place, Marconi said, anyone with an electric vehicle could use it.

To buy the car, the town will use the $9,800 it won for its participation in the Neighbor-to-Neighbor Energy challenge, a state program to get people to make their homes more energy efficient.
