Plenum for world’s first eco-mobility festival begins in S. Korea

SUWON, South Korea, Sept. 2 (Yonhap) — The general meeting of the world’s first eco-mobility festival began on Monday in the city of Suwon, providing international experts with an opportunity to discuss ways of promoting sustainable transport, organizers said.

The EcoMobility World Festival 2013, dedicated to sustainable development, kicked off Sunday and will run until Sept. 30. The festival is being held in Suwon, 30 kilometers south of Seoul.

The event, attended by hundreds of delegates from 98 cities of 41 countries, aims to share knowledge about developments in the latest eco-friendly mobile vehicles and technologies from around the world. It also hopes to foster the exchange of opinions on how to promote sustainable transport.

The festival was co-organized by the Suwon City Government, ICLEI, the international association of local government dedicated to sustainable development and the United Nations Human Settlements Program.

Eco-mobility is an integrated form of environmentally sustainable mobility that combines the use of non-motorized means of transport with the use of public transport and eco-friendly mobile vehicles to allow people to move around in their local environments without utilizing private motor vehicles
