Nissan to give rest areas EVs for emergency power supply – The Japan News

Jiji Press
Nissan Motor Co. will give its Leaf electric vehicles to “Michi no Eki” rest areas along the nation’s major roads for use as emergency power equipment.

The major automaker will give a Leaf, and its power supply system, to one such rest area in each of Japan’s 47 prefectures, Nissan said Tuesday.

Since the Leaf can provide electricity stored in its battery in times of power outages, Nissan hopes providing the vehicles will help make the rest areas emergency response centers.

A Leaf can store up to 24 kilowatt-hours of electricity, or the equivalent of two days of electricity used by an average household. The stored electricity can be supplied to homes and other facilities.
