I Would Drive 500 Miles – in a Nissan Leaf (w/ video)

Those guys up there? They’re the Proclaimers, and they would walk 500 miles and they would walk 500 more just to be the guys who walked a thousand miles to fall down at your door – you know? That was twenty years ago. If they were going to make the trip today, they could just drive a Nissan Leaf.

Have I lost my gourd on that one? Indeed, good sirs, I have not! At least, no more that Quentin Clark and Suzy Wadsworth of Waitrose had when they set out on a Nissan Leaf road trip to demonstrate the real-world practicality of their Nissan Leaf. Living in the UK, the Leaf is especially practical, thanks to Ecotricity’s Electric Highway.

If you’re not familiar with Ecotricity, the company installed a number of fast-charging EV stations at a number of highway service stations across the UK, enabling electric vehicle owners to clock 500 mile-per-day road trips with relative ease. Don’t take my word for it, though – take it from Quentin, then check out his video.

We set out to drive 500 miles in a day from the Waitrose eco-store in Bracknell, in a Nissan Leaf, following the Ecotricity Electric Highway at Welcome Break motorway service stations. This is our story.
