General Atomics Wins Special Ops Command Mini-Sub Battery Contract

General AtomicsGeneral Atomics has won a $12.5 million contract to provide the U.S. military with lithium-ion batteries and accessories for special-purpose mini-submarines, Military Aerospace & Electronics reported Tuesday.

According to John Keller, the contract comes under the U.S. Special Operations Command’s Dry Combat Submersible program that seeks to develop technology that would contribute to mission-ready combat swimmers.

General Dynamics Electric Boat will be involved in the work on the program’s 24-feet-long prototypes, while Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) has been contracted to build the 38-feet-long version.
