Houstonians celebrated National Plug In Day on Saturday at the Buffalo Speedway HEB.
Owners of electric dragsters, converted cars, Teslas and other electric cars gathered to talk shop and show off their work around the grocery store’s eVgo Freedom charging station, while shoppers drove past or walked through the gathering.
Kevin Douglass, president of the Houston Electric Auto Association, said the event’s goal was to raise awareness of electric cars available on the market today.
“When gas goes up, people think ‘what can I do to reduce my cost?’” Douglass said. “Because it uses so much less energy, the cost is much less.”
Douglass said HEAA has about 60 members with interests ranging from environmental impact to electric car technology and converting cars.
“We’re a big information source,” Douglass said. “We’re always trying to figure out how to market new electric cars.
