Charge NY Program Underway

ChargePoint and National Grid unveiled a new two-car electric vehicle charging station at Williamsville’s Tops Markets. The station was funded through a partnership with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA).

The ChargePoint EV charging station has been installed at the Tops Market store located at 5274 Main St. in Williamsville, and was announced at an event attended by officials from ChargePoint, National Grid, NYSERDA and Tops Markets.
The $1 million public/private partnership between ChargePoint and NYSERDA aims to provide more than 80 EV charging stations throughout New York State. Of those stations, 67 will be located in National Grid’s service area in upstate New York.

About 15 charging stations are expected to be installed in western New York by the end of September, with another 5 proposed for the region to be installed later this year.

NYSERDA said New York has one of the highest growth rates of electric vehicles in the country. According to New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, the number of EVs in the state has risen from about 1,000 to more than 5,000 in the past year.
