Owners of Tesla electric cars can now plug in and charge up for free at the Santa Ynez Valley Marriott.

The Buellton Supercharger station, 555 McMurray Road, is accessible 24 hours a day in the Marriott parking lot south of the main entrance.

There are eight Tesla charging stalls — four for electric vehicle (EV) charging only and the remainder are for two-hour parking from noon to 8 p.m. except for EV charging.

From one to five vehicles use the chargers each day, said Tammy Gesler, the hotel’s controller.

Palo Alto-based Tesla, which has its assembly plant in Fremont, paid for the installation. A 30-minute charge equals a 200-mile range, according to the company.

Another Supercharger station on the Central Coast off Highway 101 for the drive between Los Angeles and San Francisco is in Atascadero.
