Stortford and Stansted stations to get electric car charge point

BISHOP’S Stortford and Stansted Mountfitchet train stations are to benefit from electric car charge points.

Greater Anglia has welcomed the government’s announcement of £165,000 funding to bring the facility to 20 of its stations.

Simone Bailey, the operator’s asset management director, said: “We welcome today’s announcement by the government regarding funding for electric car charge points at 20 Greater Anglia stations. We are delighted to be included in the first wave of funding for this project and look forward to taking this project forward for the benefit of our customers.”

The development comes as new research by the BBC reveals councils across the UK have spent £7.2m on electric car charging points in the past three years, but many of them are not being used.

One in six local authorities with charging points have at least one point that has not been used at all in the past year and the total spent so far equates to £1,750 per electric car, according to the data.
