Richmond Times-Dispatch : McAuliffe defends former role in underperforming electric car company

Democratic gubernatorial nominee Terry McAuliffe on Friday defended his involvement in a Mississippi electric car company he founded that has not met employment or production projections.

In an opinion column for The Washington Post, he reiterated that he learned from the paper that a U.S. senator had documents showing that the Securities and Exchange Commission was looking into GreenTech, where he served as chairman until stepping down in December to run for governor full time.

The SEC is investigating the company’s conduct in seeking foreign investors.

“I’ve not been contacted in any way by those conducting the investigation and have no knowledge of it beyond what has been reported,” wrote McAuliffe, now a minority shareholder in the company.
